Camcorder filter chain experiments: gamma (levels) correction. (click on images)

Original camcorder picture. Thunderstorm atmosphere instead of sunny weather.
Scroll down for additional information.

Despite of the really bright sunny weather, this looks almost like "storm's coming". The sky looses color saturation to noise, the water looks murky and the sail desaturated and obscured by too much shadow.

Temporal smoother only. Sky is much cleaner and has more color now.

It may appear as if there was loss of detail in the clouds, but these 'details' were just noise grains, as one would easily see in the moving picture and also here at a closer look.

Same picture as above, cleaned and 1.5 gamma correction. Still a bit dark maybe.
Scroll down for additional information.

Color has also been enhanced, partly according to taste, and partly because gamma reduces contrast and therefore also color contrast.

Brightness, contrast and color were adjusted to deliver full color and brightness range. The VHS filter is used to correct color displacement and is useful for analog camcorders only !

Same picture as above, 1.8 gamma correction. Probably too much now.

This now really looks as sunny as it was, although the clouds get a bit fainted. A matter of taste and how it looks on the actual TV used.
